Christmas Break

Grace Park, as reported last issue, played a pro-am with a lucky threesome who won the round of golf with her through a contest sponsored by Michelob. While she was there, she and the other two Michelob Ambassadors, Lorie Kane and Natalie Gulbis, posed for some photos for their sponsor. Here are a few of them!

On the 8th of December in Seoul, Se Ri Pak and Seon Hwa Lee participated in a special event at the behest of their sponsor, CJ. Called the CJ Cuisine Classroom, they made Kimchi and Pizza (mmm, what a combo!) and lots of other yummy stuff along with 30 young helpers. Fun was had by all!

Very hygienic gloves!

I love the heart shaped whatsis in Seon Hwa's pan!

Se Ri says: Always wash up when you prepare food!

Ji Yai Shin lost her mother a few years ago in a tragic car accident. Now that she has become one of the most celebrated athletes in Korea, she is giving back. Her sponsor Hi-Mart helped her throw a Christmas Party for orphaned children in Seoul.

Check out this video report of the festivities:

Over in Qatar, the Asian Games pitted all the countries of Asia against each other in a wide variety of sporting events. One of the events was golf, and to no one's surprise, both the Korean women and men exploded to dominating wins, in both the team events and solo events. Both golf events were decided by December 11th.

In the women's individual event, teenage Korean star So Yeon Ryu flat out dominated on this easy course (the course had to be set up to be easy to allow players from countries who did not get much of a chance to compete at golf to still be able to play). Ryu shot 66-66-64-67 for a 29 under par total and destroyed the competition by nine shots. If this result is any indication, this is going to be a girl to watch in the next few years (the winner of the gold medal at the last Asian Games, in 2002, was none other than Ai Miyazato, who has had a bit of success since then!).

In second place at 20 under was Japan's Mika Miyazato (no relation to Ai). Korea also snagged the bronze medal when He Yong Choi finished third at -19, thanks to an excellent 66 in the final round. Jae Eun Chung, the third Korean golfer on the team, finished tied for 9th at 11 under par.

Thanks to three golfers in the top ten, the Korean women also won the team gold medal. As it turned out, the men won both the individual and team gold medals as well. An impressive golf sweep for the Seoul Brothers and Sisters!

(L to R): Individual Bronze medalist He Young Choi, Jae Eun Chung, and Individual Gold Medalist So Yeon Ryu celebrate their Asian Games Team Gold.
