Se Ri started 2002 with a wrist injury that hampered her play. This was only her third tournament of the year. Played on the tough El Caballero course, she managed consecutive 68's to take a 3 shot lead over Annika Sorenstam. They battled for 18 holes in the final round before a bogey on 17 dropped Se Ri's lead to 1. However, Annika missed her birdie on 18, and Se Ri tapped in for her 14th career victory and first of 2002.
