The Scoop: The tournament was played this year at historic Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England. On day one, the weather was absolutely atrocious. But Jang played masterfully, carding a 68 despite the cold temperatures, wind and rain. Only one other player, Sophie Gustafson, managed to score in the 60s on this day. On Friday, JJ continued her stellar play with a 6 under par 66 to take the 2 day lead of four shots over an amateur, Louise Stahle. On Saturday, JJ continued to hold steady despite the fact that many of the top players in the game moved into contention behind her. She started Sunday with a five shot lead, and was paired with world's number one Annika Sorenstam. Despite the pressure of trying to win her first event while playing with Annika, she made hardly a mistake all day, outplaying Sorenstam and cruising to a four shot win over Gustafson. A wire to wire victory, and the second Major won by a Korean in 2005! |
