The Scoop: Hee-Won finished second by one shot to Mi Hyun Kim on this course in 2002. Like at the Sybase, she apparently wanted to make that up this year. She shot a wonderful second round 65 to catch Candie Kung at the top after two rounds. Then she went on a tear. By the tenth hole she was 7 under par, and only Wendy Ward, who was also white hot, was even keeping pace. But she played too conservatively after that, and Ward caught her by the 17th hole. They went to a playoff. On the first hole, Ward had a seven footer to win but missed. On the second hole, Hee-Won struck first with a brilliant iron to 4 feet. But Ward sunk an improbable 35 foot birdie putt from the fringe, and they halved that hole. Finally on the third hole, Han sunk a 25 foot birdie putt of her own, and Ward just missed her birdie try from slightly nearer. It was the second trophy in three weeks for Hee-Won! |
