Here are a couple of nice photos of Soo-Yun Kang that appeared in the paper around this time. The blue dress photo appears to be some sort of a function sponsored by her clothing sponsor BeanPole Golf. However, I'm not sure if this was taken on this trip, or is an older pic. Nonetheless, it's a pretty nice one! |

The tournament began on Friday, but right away, there was trouble for the Cinderellas. The previous night, Soo-Yun had fallen while leaving the clubhouse. She landed on her left hand and sprained it somewhat, forcing her to wear a wrap. As you can tell, in some of the photos she does not look very comfortable with it. Kang ended up shooting a first round even par score, but had to drop out of the event after that. Here's hoping the injury heals quickly so she can return to the LPGA in time for her next scheduled event! |

In the first round, Soo-Yun played with Meena Lee and Jeong Jang. Quite a threesome! On the fifth hole, Meena hit her ball out of bounds and wound up with a triple bogey. She eventually scored a 4 over par 76 on the round, and was never really a factor in the tournament after that.

Meanwhile, Jeong Jang was having problems of her own. She ate some pork belly for dinner the night before the event, and it didn't sit well with her. She had to go to the hospital, and was put on a liquid diet for the rest of the week. In order to beat the heat, you can see JJ using an ice pack on her head. She wound up shooting a 70 on the day.
After the first round ended, the surprise leader was Bo Mi Suh. Suh is a player on the US Futures Tour, and so it was somewhat unexpected to see her atop the leaderboard, beating five LPGA golfers. 1. Bo Mi Suh -5 (5 birdies, no bogies) |
